PADI Advanced Open Water Course

This course is field based so there is minimal theory. The PADI Advanced Course consists of five dives made up of two core (required) dives and three elective (instructor or student choice) dives. It runs over two consecutive days and includes diving from our boats at the world-renowned Poor Knights islands, from our boats on the world-class wrecks of the HMNZS Tui and the HMNZS Waikato, and on the Rainbow Warrior and the Canterbury.

What does the course involve?

The first dive could be Peak Performance Buoyancy, followed by a Navigational dive, the next day complete your Deep and Wreck dive on the Tui and the Waikato, before heading north to complete your final dive as a Photographic or Naturalist dive and then a fun dive employing your newly found skills.

You can choose to select just the Five Dives and the training, or add it to the accommodation and food package.

Core Dives

  • Deep - Dive to a maximum of 30 metres and find out what nitrogen narcosis is - will you experience it?
  • Navigation - Fine-tune and improve navigation skills with compass use and natural navigation tips.

Elective Dives

  • Wreck - Dive a shipwreck and feel the adventure!
  • Peak Performance Buoyancy - Perfect your hover, an ideal skill for photographers, underwater observers, and wreck enthusiasts.
  • Naturalist - identify different plant and aquatic species.
  • Search and Recovery - learn search patterns and techniques to aid in recovery of that lost mask overboard!
  • Multi-level - learn some of the theory behind dive tables and computers, how to plan multi-level dives and use the Wheel.
  • Photography - learn about care and preparation, also tips on lighting, positioning, backscatter, and composure. Both digital and good old fashioned film are our offered oprions.
  • Boat - bow, stern, aft, and port; boat diving is very different to shore diving. This elective gives you a heads up on the nautical way of diving.

All materials, and equipment are included, and you will receive a PADI certification as an Advanced diver.
